A vintage 1900’s hydrometer for determining the specific Weight for liquids lighter than water. It is a measuring device with which the density or the specific gravity of liquids can be determined. The measuring principle is based on the Archimedes' principle. This means that a body is immersed in a liquid until the weight of the displaced liquid corresponds to the weight of the immersed body, the lower the density of a liquid, the further the body of the same weight is immersed.
